Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ's)
Does Windsor Crossing have small groups?
Yes, we have many groups of people (typically 8-12 people) who meet together regularly for fellowship and discipleship. Some of these groups are called LABs (Learning and Belonging groups) that unpack the previous weekend's topic with very creative curriculum developed by our very own pastors. Some LABs are co-ed, some specifically target couples, or single moms, or just men, or just women. We have some smaller groups, we call Independent Studies, that meet are typical Bible studies or book study groups. Others are focused on outreach and missions. All of our groups exist to help people connect to God and connect to others.
Why make such a big deal out of doing life with others in LABs, groups, classes, or serving on a team?
Because we believe that's where your life is going to change the most. That's where you are going to grow. When you can get together regularly with the same group of people where you are known, loved, celebrated, and served, that's when you are really experiencing church the way God intended it. You will miss out on the most exciting part of Windsor Crossing if you stay on the sidelines, only exploring God's Word. We were meant for experiencing and expressing as well.
So what does a LAB look like and why should I consider trying one?
Our labs are just smaller groups of people who are willing to go on a journey together this fall. Each group will be a little different, but our hope and prayer is that you'll have a chance to meet just a few of the people who've been showing up at The Crossing. They might live in your neighborhood, they might share a common interest, they might not look or think like you at all. But together, you can learn to live the life God has in store for you by sharing, seeking, praying or just hanging out. And along the way, you just might find a place to belong.
Oh I get it... "Learning And Belonging" groups. You guys are very clever.
Thanks for noticing, but that's not a question. But there’s even a little more to it. See, we fully realize that each of us was created for relationship. We talk about it, teach on it and celebrate it pretty regularly at The Crossing. But we’ve also learned that, like most of life, community can be unpredictable and even messy. That means the whole idea of sticking everyone in the same kind of setting with the same kind of approach doesn't work... at least for us. That also means we will be always and forever figuring out new and fresh ways for people to check out what works for them.
So the whole "lab" thing really is an experiment?
In some ways, yes (though we promise no white coats). We're asking you to sign up for an experience to see how it goes. You may discover that this is exactly what you’re looking for. Or you may want something more or something different. That’s okay too—let’s try something else in the spring. Together, we can learn what works and what doesn’t. Look at it this way: at the very least, you will have the chance to meet some folks you probably didn’t know.
You said the groups are different... how different?
LAB Groups discuss the weekend message by using materials that are produced by our teaching pastoral team. But, even though we're all discussing the same weekend, we know that groups develop their own personalities... and we're okay with that. Some are for couples, young marrieds, men only, and women only. They'll look a little different, but in the end, it's all about building relationships and learning along the way.
What if I'm taking another class (like Explorations or Body Life)? Can I still sign up for a LAB?
As long as they don't happen at the same time, we're fine with that... We just know that signing up for TOO much is never good for anyone's spiritual, physical, or mental health! Take your time, try a class if you haven't yet, and then try out a LAB. Because they're offered in semesters, you can try more than one out and see what works for you.
You keep saying that serving is a great way to experience community. Can I serve on a team and sign up for a lab?
Sure. For some people, serving regularly on a team IS their community. For others, a lab might provide extra opportunities to connect. As long as you understand the commitments to both, that’s your call.
How do I know where they meet?
Once labs signups are turned on, there are a couple of ways. First, you'll see the LAB Location in the list of labs. If you click on a location, a map will pop up so you can see the location and even get directions to the lab. If you click the Labs Map link above, you'll see all of the labs on a map, and you can even signup on the map.
How can I sign up?
Once signups go online, you can click on the last column on the right (Spots Left) for each specific LAB. Fill out your information and click the Sign Up button. If you have ANY problems, all you have to do is call our offices or email labs@wcrossing.org. We'll be happy to help you sign up.
